The Post-Pandemic July Fourth, 2021: An Amazing Time
Before we speak of the FLIR part of our blog topic, let us share a few words about the upcoming Independence Day celebration of fun, food, and freedom.
Because of the Pandemic, some areas of the country are still under Covid-19 restrictions. However, as the country has reopened, this Independence Day has been imbued with new significance all over the country.
Many friends and families who were unable to see each other or hug will undoubtedly be getting together to celebrate July Fourth. We know you will cherish the memories you make with family, friends, food, fireworks, and fun.
It’s a thrilling, grilling, fun time for picnics, barbecues, cook-outs, parades, and parties. July 4th gives us a special time to feel delighted in our liberty and freedom. After all, freedom is the legacy of this country. And, in the shadow of deprivation, restrictions, and regulations imposed by the Pandemic, freedom tastes new again. Perhaps we have profited from the lessons of COVID-19: Never take liberties for granted.
Fun, Family, Food, Fireworks, and FLIR
As you might have noticed, our blog title features several July Fourth words that begin with the letter “F.” Naturally, you know all about fun, food, family, and fireworks.
However, you might have thought our addition of “FLIR” in our July Fourth blog title was unusual. To help explain that reference, we have some important FLIR news.
To introduce the news, we are proud to tell you ER Precision Optics make parts for some of the products produced by Teledyne-FLIR.
Likewise, you might recognize FLIR as an acronym for Forward-Looking Infrared. The big news in the technical world is that Teledyne recently acquired FLIR.
You see, it is appropriate to celebrate Teledyne’s acquisition of FLIR at this special time, just prior to our July Fourth Holiday. Put briefly, Teledyne officially acquired FLIR as of May 14, 2021. “Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced…the successful completion of the acquisition of FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:FLIR). “…FLIR will now be included in Teledyne’s Digital Imaging segment and operate under the name Teledyne FLIR.”
Likewise, MSN News reported, “…cameras, sensors and sensor systems that both Teledyne and FLIR Systems manufacture are uniquely complementary with minimal overlap.” And they concluded, “Therefore, if such products are being sold together, they will be able to capture a larger market share. So, by acquiring FLIR Systems, Teledyne not only expanded its imaging sensor portfolio in terms of volume, but the deal will also help it gain production efficiency as well as economies of scale.”
To Whom Roses Are Due
Thus we are congratulating and celebrating both Teledyne and FLIR. Here’s why: Experts at Govcon.Com reported on the words of Robert Mehrabian, Executive Chairman of Teledyne. He stated, “I am delighted to welcome FLIR to the Teledyne family…”
And he added, “As a combined company, Teledyne FLIR will uniquely provide a full spectrum of imaging technologies and products spanning X-ray through infrared and from components to complete imaging systems. By the way, FLIR Systems is one of the pioneers in thermal imaging. Teledyne bought it in a cash-and-stock deal worth approximately $8.2 billion.z” He added, The new company, “Teledyne FLIR will also provide a complete range of unmanned systems and imaging payload across all domains ranging from deep sea to deep space.”
For these goals, they will need specialized parts and ER Precision Optics is proud to supply them. For example, in the words of Mark Hess, CEO, the gimbal, mentioned in our previous blog “is located on the front of the helicopter and it has both day and night vision capabilities.

Meanwhile, in the midst of all the coming July Fourth festivities, we hope you and your family take a moment to examine what it really means in your head and in your heart, to be an American.

Travel for July 4, 2021, July 4 Celebrations: A Unique Time
We would be remiss if we did not remind you that travel in some local and state areas might still require some restrictions. Not vaccinated? And Planning Travel? The CDC recommends several steps.
- Maintain social distancing.
- Continue wearing a mask, of course. Masks must be worn on public transportation, such as planes, buses, trains if you have not been vaccinated.
- Wash your hands faithfully.
- Test for COVID-19 before and after travel.
- Get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Caution for Your July Fourth, 2021 Holiday
Without sounding too preachy, we have one more caution to help you have a healthy and safe Independence Day Holiday. Please Drive Carefully!
AAA projects that more than 47.7 million Americans travel between Friday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 4… The 2021 travel forecast meets and exceeds pre-Pandemic records.
Drive safely and “Arrive Alive.” This is a long-standing slogan on Orlando roadways. Our advice:
- Start early and avoid record-breaking crowds on the road. This is a worthwhile idea wherever you go for your July 4 celebration.
- Speed Kills. Travel at the speed limit.
- Additionally, avoid alcohol while driving.
- And finally, stay focused behind the wheel.
